This was my first completed Canadian music comic strip.

I was inspired by the death of Stompin’ Tom Connors (1936-2013). Upon his death on March 6, I realized how little I knew about this Canadian icon. In my mind, he was more cartoon than human being. I sought to remedy this by researching his life. This included reading his memoir Before the Fame.

The book is hard-going. Connors seems to recall everything that ever happened to him. The term for this is hyperthymesia. Thus there is a lot more detail than perhaps the average reader/non-fan would care to know. For example, Connors seems able to recall every night he found himself staying in a jail cell because he had nowhere else to sleep while on tour. This does become somewhat repetitive.

I’ve tried to keep the jail cell stays to a minimum in my truncated version of his life.
